The focus of preventive healthcare is on early recognition and prevention of certain diseases.

Austrian social security recommends the following check-ups:

For men and women:

Always:

Examine your skin for changes twice per year (before and after the summer months). Consult with a physician if there are changes.

Check the following regularly:
Blood pressure
Weight

Have the following done regularly:
EKG
Ergometry

Starting at 40 years old:

Occult tests examine stool for hidden blood / repeat annually
Urine examination for traces of blood / repeat annually

Starting at 50 years old:

Colonoscopy / repeat according to your physician’s recommendation but at least every 7 years

Specifically for women:

Starting at 20 years old:

Pap smear for early recognition of cervical cancer / repeat annually

Breast palpation by a physician / repeat annually

 

Starting at 30 years old:

HPV test / repeat according to your physician’s recommendation but at least every 3 years

 Starting at 40 years old:

Mammogram / repeat according to your physician’s recommendation but at least every 2 years

Specifically for men:

Starting at 20 years old:

Self-examination of testicles

Starting at 45 years old:

Prostate examination including PSA test

Your check-up:

 The examination program is made up of the following parameters:

  • Family medical history
  • Determining your personal risk
  • Age-recommended examinations

 

and includes examinations from the following groups:

  • Cardiovascular: blood tests, EKG, ergometry, …
  • Metabolism: blood tests, measuring size, weight, eating habits
  • Ultrasound
  • X-ray

 

and examinations determined from your medical history interview such as:

  • MRI/CT
  • EEG
